The H2R® Burner can convert gas turbines to zero carbon emission systems with Ultra Low NOx emissions. It operates with any proportion of Natural gas and Hydrogen (in Dry Low NOx Dual Fuel mode).

The H2R® Burner can be adopted immediately as a solution to reduce NOx and CO₂ at a later stage once hydrogen becomes more readily available.

Operation

The H2R® is the hydrogen fuelled renewal retrofit burner for gas turbines operating currently on natural gas. The H2R® burner converts gas turbines to zero carbon emission systems when operated with 100% hydrogen.

NOx & CO₂ reduction

The H2R® eliminates greenhouse gases at the source. It converts natural gas fuelled gas turbines to operate 100% on H₂ (wherever available). The product of hydrogen combustion is water vapour with no carbon dioxide emissions.

The H2R® operates with 100% Natural Gas right through to 100% Hydrogen (dual fuel), and in any proportion of either fuel with Ultra Low NOx emissions.

It makes it suitable for immediate application for NOx reduction and compliance, and also for decarbonisation as Hydrogen becomes increasingly available.

Compliance

Tested and validated independently, it complies with International Emissions regulations Worldwide, today and well into the future (~ 2050).

Installation

Modular and scalable by design, the burner can be adapted to gas turbines whether fitted with silo, annular, can-annular or can type combustion chambers.

The durability of the H2R® meets current industry standards; and can be installed within a scheduled overhaul period.

Impact in Europe

Currently, gas turbines in Europe produce over 1150 MT CO₂/year or ~30% of all the fossils fuelled plants emissions. In addition to the dramatical influence on the environment, carbon pollution leads to socio-economic costs. A gas turbine operator in Europe could to pay as carbon taxes up to 112 euro per tonne, depending on the country.

Considering gas turbines only in the European countries with green/blue hydrogen production and distribution networks, we see a significant decarbonisation potential of over 30% of the CO₂ produced today once our H2R® is widely adopted.

We customised our Ultra Low NOx H2R® burner for a 15MW gas turbine. NOx is expected to be reduced from 45ppm to less than 8ppm with Natural Gas. With pure Hydrogen the CO₂ output will be zero, a reduction of over 85 thousand Tons/year.
