The customisation of a 75MW gas turbine engine was carried out to establish the engine capability to operate with up to 30 vol-% hydrogen content in the fuel. A full engine performance model and detailed combustion system simulations were performed to assess the global and local effects of the operation with hydrogen and natural gas mixtures. The evaluation included the effects of burner changes on the combustion chamber heat load, flame stability, NOx levels and recommendations on combustion system adjustments and burner adaptions were quantified and the final report was accepted by our client.
The expected CO₂ saving is put at over 50 thousand tons per year with 30% Hydrogen
