Swiss ClimateTech startup Crosstown H2R AG has secured €3.2 million in seed financing to fast‑track the deployment of its H2R® Burner technology – a retrofit solution that enables existing gas turbines to operate on 100 percent renewable fuels such as hydrogen. Based in Baden, the company’s patented modular burner is compatible with turbine systems from Rolls‑Royce, GE, Siemens, ABB and others, offering significant NOₓ reduction (up to 85 percent) and the potential to eliminate roughly 300,000 tons of CO₂ emissions per 100 MW turbine annually.
The funding round was led by 2100Ventures, Climate Insiders, Unruly Capital and SDAC, joined by existing backers CiRi, Voyagers and support from the Swiss Federal Office of Energy. With this capital injection, Crosstown plans to push its go‑to‑market strategy across Europe, expand its burner compatibility across more turbine models, and establish strong partnerships with OEMs and independent service providers. By retrofitting existing power plants, the startup aims to help Europe avoid stranded gas infrastructure while reinforcing energy sovereignty and accelerating decarbonisation.
